Charles Clayton Gilmer Sr., 83, went to heaven to be with his Savior on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, because of his relationship with Jesus Christ. Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Christ Chapel Bible Church, 3701 Birchman Ave., 76107. Visitation: Following service. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Christ Chapel building fund. Charles was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Fort Worth. He graduated from Poly High School in 1949 and attended Baylor University where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration. He later received his master's of religious education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served his country during the Korean War as a captain in the U.S. Army. He had a deep passion for youth camps, where he attended as a camper and counselor for many years. He faithfully ministered at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Fort Worth and Metropolitan Baptist Church in Houston. He will be remembered for his love for family and friends, smile, laughter, and servant's heart. The Gilmer family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Memory Care for their love and support over this past year. Survivors: High school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Nell Gilmer; daughter, Vicki York (Larry); sons, Clay Gilmer (Jennifer), Doug Gilmer (Kim); grandchildren, Jennifer Dearmore (Josh), Jessica Thomason (Jeff), Garrett (Bailee), Ashlyn, Chase, Whitney and J.P. Gilmer; great-grandchildren, Ella Dearmore, Jack Dearmore, Kooper Gilmer; sister, Betty Allen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
