Donnie B. McKennon Obituary
Donnie Benson McKennon, 77, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at his home with his loving wife of 36 years by his side. Service: 11:30 a.m. Monday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. Pallbearers: Carson, Cameron, Benny (grandsons), Shane Rainey, Derek O'Keefe and Josh Wrinkle. Memorials: In lieu of sending flowers, Donnie requested that donations be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Donnie will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and follower of Christ. Donnie was born April 6, 1938, in Mansfield. He attended Polytechnic High School and graduated in 1956. In October 1957, he went to work for Rock Island Railroad as a brakeman conductor until 1968. During this time, he was a master Mason in good standing of Haltom City Riverside #1331 and was a charter member of A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He also served in the Army Reserve 1960-1966. In 1968, Donnie began his 32-year career at General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin and retired as a quality engineer in 2000. During this time, Donnie graduated from UTA with his bachelor's degree in business and then from the University of Dallas with his master's degree in aeronautical engineering in 1979. His passion was his family and fishing. He was truly a gentle giant of a man who was dedicated to his family. Donnie will truly be missed. He was preceded in death by his father, William Donaldson McKennon, in 1990 and his mother, Orene Exie McKennon, in 2010. Survivors: The love of his life of 36 years, Sue McKennon, whom he met while they were both employed by Lockheed. He often mentioned, "It was one of those 'wow' moments where you know you've met the love of your life, best friend and soulmate." He is also survived by his daughters, Stephanie McKennon, Jerene Boronow and husband, Bobby, and Michelle Mayo and husband, James; son, Patrick Shipp and partner, Jimmy; grandchildren, Carson Emerson LaFavers, Cameron David LaFavers and Benny Mayo; and sister, Karen Ashmore and husband, Darrell.
