Arthur Berger Obituary

Arthur Ross Berger, 87, died on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Monday, August 8, at First United Methodist Church, 800 West 5th St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102, with reception to follow at the church. Mr. Berger was born to Helen Hersh Berger and Ted Berger in Cleveland, Ohio, and at an early age moved to Dallas. He graduated from Highland Park High School and then from Southern Methodist University, where he studied mathematics. He was awarded master's degrees in both mathematics and mathematical statistics at the University of Illinois. While pursuing his doctorate degree, he was recruited by Arthur Andersen & Co. to organize and form the company's Management Consulting Division, in which he served as a partner in the Chicago, Ill., Oklahoma City, Okla. and Washington, D.C. offices from 1957 to 1975. He later served as the CFO and a member of the Board of Directors for several large companies involved in a wide range of local and national industries and governmental services. "Art" enjoyed many years in his independent consulting and C.P.A. practices. He was always intrigued and successful in designing and implementing hundreds of computerized systems for clients, large and small. From his thorough work as a forensic accountant in court cases, he was dubbed by many firms as "Settlement Art." Cases settled quickly when he was named as the expert. Art loved his community and enjoyed serving on civic boards, youth organizations and local political groups. He was ready to pitch in and help wherever needed. He enjoyed raquetball, handball, golfing, tennis, history, opera and all kinds of music, particularly the Boston Pops. His smile, friendship and love of life will be missed by his family and all who knew him. A special thanks of gratitude for the excellent care and loving kindness of the staff and doctors at Heartland Rehabilitation and Heartand Hospice of Bedford. Art was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Paul Berger. Survivors: Wife of 44 years, Nancy Berger; sons, Larry J. Berger and wife, Kelly and Steven R. Berger and wife, Stephanie; daughter, Karen J. Berger; stepdaughters, Michelle Austin and Renee Austin and husband, Jeramie Rittiluechai; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Connor, Claire, Skyler, Taylor, Ethan, Ryan and Luke Berger, and Mitchell and Graham Rittiluechai.

I had the chance to get to know Art through my uncle and aunt, Paul and Phyllis Berger. Time spent with Art was always a delight- full of animated discussions on just about any topic. It was fun watching the give and take between Art and Paul. Both had such wonderful laughs. The last time I saw Art was for lunch at the Cape Cod room in Chicago with my father, Tom Rodgers. That memory is even more precious now. My heartfelt condolences to all of you who loved him.
