Thomas Rainone Obituary

Thomas C. Rainone (1963-2016) was born in Arlington. He attended Arlington High School and graduated with a B.A. in Television and Film from UTA in 1985. He won top award at UTA for his student film "Armageddon Fabulosa," which when seen by Director Brian Yuzna, he was immediately hired for his first film "Society." Tom was a top special effects production supervisor, director, actor and music coordinator in Hollywood, Calif., and his home state of Texas. He still holds the record for hiring the most special effects companies on one film "Return of The Living Dead III." Films include: "Wishmaster," "Bride of Re-Animator," "The Crow Salvation," "Honey I Shrunk the Kids," "Lord of Illusions," "Freaked," "Silent Night Deadly Night," "Necronomicon," "Children of the Corn III," "Phantoms," "Night of the Scarecrow" and many more. He worked with many fine actors and directors: Randy Quaid, Brooke Shields, Peter O'Toole,(whom asked Tom to direct him in a scene from "Phantoms"), Keanu Reeves, Mickey Rooney, Mr. T, Ben Affleck, Alex Winter, Lloyd Bridges, Clive Barker, Brian Yuzna, Wes Craven and Ryan Brennan. He worked on over 30 feature films and wrote, produced and directed award-winning music videos for musical groups, The Ramones "Substitute," Motorhead "Sacrifice" and the Revolting Cocks "Sexy." All can be viewed on YouTube. Tom was an avid fisherman, hunter and expert shot. When he was 15, baseball legend Ted Williams took us out to go skeet shooting. Tom out shot Ted and the rest of us! Tom grew up around great American, Texas and European art, which helped sharpen his talents and eye for his film career. Throughout his life he collected and dealt in fine art. Tom was a member of S.A.G., other important motion picture organizations and of NRA, TSRA, TGCA and Sons of Confederate Veterans. Loved by his three brothers family and friends, his untimely death leaves a great void in all our lives. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Carl Rainone, and mother, Cherry Rainone. Survivors: Dogs, Babies and Max; brothers, Frank, Greg (wife, Suray), Pete Rainone; niece, Morgan Walters (Alex); and great-nephews, Cannen and Conner Walters. Funeral: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, Most Blessed Sacrament, 2100 N. Davis Drive, Arlington, 76012. Burial: Parkdale Cemetery, 701 Mary St., Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, Wade Family Funeral Home, Arlington.

I met Tom back in the early 80's. He was on a TV show along with me. He was interviewed by the host and that's where I met him. I was an Elvis Impersonator at time and Tom asked me to travel with him and his crew To Graceland, in which I did. It was a great experience for me. We became very close along with his family. I was shocked when I found out that he passed.

Insanely funny. Insanely loyal. Brilliant, creative, intense, wild, fearless...a beautiful and unique human being. He collected friends everywhere he went. I was indeed lucky to have been one of them. God Bless You, Tom. RIP

I just got the news. I vividly remember all the Rainone brothers, especially Tom, as friends and customers in my record store Fantasia. The family were longtime friends of my manager and great friend Chris Pool. Tom was always so much fun to be around. My deepest sympathy to his friends and family.

I remember Tom. A group of us would gather at Mama's Pizza on South Cooper for lunch and I credit him with introducing me to A Clockwork Orange through the short he filmed on a cruise ship. He planted the seed of appreciation for the art of film. So glad he succeeded in his passions and sad he's gone so soon.

Tom, I'm going to miss hearing your chopper at night when I walk my dog and some of our impromptu conversations. I was glad there was somebody else watching our neighborhood at night.

One Christmas, Tom sent me a Christmas card with him and the grandmother corpse from TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. I called him up and told him I wasn't in LA but working in a New York City basement. His response was "What the hell you doin' down there, son? Fighting CHUD?"

To the brothers, my condolences. Tom was a uniquely enlightening individual. I considered it an honor to have been his friend. Such a coincidence that, in conversation one day, he mentioned that he had an uncle named Phil Esposito....Phil and my dad, Bobby Joe Ince, were very close friends.
May the lord be with you guys through this troubling time. Your brother will be missed.

Pete, Greg, Frankie, and all the Rainone family our deepest sympathies and condolences for the loss of your beloved brother, Tom. My life was greatly enriched by knowing him through all these years. Tom's creativity, ebullience, and iconclastic worldview are all things I shall treasure in my memories.

This is not a fade to black for me, it is a Premiere of all the great things Tom accomplished and his memory lives on.
