1922 - 2006 Obituary Condolences
Charles A. Rush Jr., 83, a physician, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at a local hospital.

Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 917 Lamar St., Fort Worth.

Charles was a small-town Texas boy, born Oct. 11, 1922, in Mount Calm, and was reared in Throckmorton. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific Islands. After the war, he entered Texas Christian University as a chemistry major. Charles graduated from Baylor Medical School in 1953 and returned to Fort Worth where he, Dr. David Pillow and Dr. Bruce Jacobson opened North Richland Hills Family Practice. On May 7, 1960, Charles, along with Dr. Martha, Bob Chapman, John Jermyn, Dr. Jacobson and Dr. Pillow, opened Glenview Hospital. Dr. Rush became board certified in allergy and immunology in 1974 and worked with Texas Ear Nose and Throat Specialist until his death. Dr. Rush took pride in his role as the official team physician for the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, a job he held for over 50 years. He was a recipient of the Gold Headed Cane in 2003, the highest honor attainable from the Tarrant County Medical Society. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from North Hills Hospital in February 2006. Charles embraced his church, St. Andrew's Espicopal, as a lay reader and a chalice bearer.

Survivors: Charles is survived by any family members and friends.
