Gere Cox Obituary

Gere Leeds Cox FORT WORTH -- Our beloved Gere Leeds Cox, age 86, of Fort Worth, passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, May 2, 2020 with her husband and love of her life, Don, holding her hand. SERVICE: A Celebration of her Life to honor her memory will be held when the current Covid crisis is behind us. MEMORIALS: A child of the Depression era, Gere cared deeply about those less fortunate than herself and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, gifts in her honor be made to a cause she supported, The Safe Haven of Tarrant County: https://www.safehaventc.org/ Gere was a wonderful mother, loving wife, and a talented professional artist. Her talents led her to travel the United States, fueling her creativity and making a way of life with her artwork. For over fifty years the work of her hands and heart has touched thousands of people. Her artwork has shown and sold across the country, and she never stopped painting, even after retiring professionally. Her art is treasured by family and friends alike. Gere was the rock of our family. She shared her passion for gardening with her husband Don, and together they made their yard a showstopper, filled with colorful plants and blooms in every season. Her art and light-filled home welcomed everyone. Inside there was always food and even a candy store for the grandkids. Tables were set for meals, games, and puzzles, and lots of talk and laughter. She was a woman of strong spirit, and strong spiritual belief. SURVIVORS: Her loving husband, Don Cox; her son, Jim Leeds and his wife, Ann; and daughters, Pam Chamberlain and her husband, Jim, Tracie Storie and her husband, Gene, and Julie Brown and her husband, Paul; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; her sister, June Umscheid and her husband, Joe, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

If any of Gere relatives read these messages I wish to thank you. I just bought a gorgeous piece of artwork in a shadow box with her name written on the backing. It is a treasure in my home in Placitas, NM.

Aunt Dean, it's been almost a year since you left this world only to go and join your God, mother, father, sisters in Heaven. I truly hope you are doing so much better now.

I've wondered how you can say goodbye to someone that's been in your life for 60 plus years and I've come to the conclusion that you can't. Aunt Dean I'll miss you always. I love you.

I only met your mother once when I was invited to a Chinese New Years party. She left us to our own devices, and you could tell it was a loving, creative, and happy home. Im sorry for your loss.
