Marshall Day Obituary

Marshall Joseph Day
July 8, 1946 - April 14, 2021
Fort Worth, Texas - Marshall Joseph Day, aged 74, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on April 14, 2021 due to complications from a degenerative neuromuscular disease.
Memorial Service: 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Chapel. Internment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood.
Born on July 8, 1946 in Fort Worth, Marshall was the son of Josephine Kennady Day and Joseph F. Day, Jr. Marshall developed many life-long friendships growing up on the west side of Fort Worth, and he was a member of 1964 class of Arlington Heights High School. Marshall graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1968, where he was a Sigma Nu. He attended SMU Law School for one year and graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1971. Marshall spent most of his career practicing law with his father, Joe Day Jr., in Fort Worth. His clients could always count on Marshall's empathy, compassion, and his vigorous representation.
Marshall was married to Teresa Rhoten in 1968 and their son, Jared, was born in 1975. During Jared's early years they created countless memories traveling (including years of annual father/son ski trips) and sailing on Eagle Mountain Lake.
Marshall's family and friends remember his persistent sense of humor, and his obsession with University of Texas athletics, especially football.
In 1995, Marshall married Charlene Cooper of Oklahoma City. They enjoyed many years together before he lost her to Lupus in May 2009.
Throughout his life, Marshall was serious about physical fitness - in his early adult life, he traveled the country each year to run marathons in different cities (some of his favorites included the New York Marathon, Washington D.C. Marine Corp, Dallas White Rock, and the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth). Later in life, Marshall graduated to the Rivercrest weight room where he could be found every morning. He inherited his love of gardening from his father, especially his roses and lemon trees. From his teenage years until recently, Marshall also enjoyed hunting and fishing outdoors with many of his friends.
Marshall and his wife Jane Ann, whom he married in 2010, were together for the last years of his life.
He was the best grandfather and father one could hope for and a treasured friend to many. His wit and compassion will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Marshall was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Kennady Day and Joseph F. Day Jr.; his sister, Lehnen Catherine Day; and his former wife, Charlene Cooper-Day.
Marshall is survived by his current wife, Jane Anne Day; his son, Joseph Jared Day; his grandchildren, Morgan Lynsey Day, Joseph Patrick Day and Collier Lobb Day; his daughter-in-law, Lynsey Lobb Day; and former wife and forever friend Teresa, Rhoten Day Burk.
The family wishes to thank Marshall's many physicians, physical therapists and beloved caregivers.

Marshall was a wonderful friend, classmate and fraternity brother. I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. He was a decent, honorable man who was admired and respected by his friends and colleagues.

I met Marshall soon after law school when I was working at the Court House. This meeting began years of friendship. Through the years we shared the happy, the sad, the funny, the embarrassing, the sweet and the bitter. I still have his most precious of all gifts-memories. His values, kindness, strength, generosity, courage and his laughter continue to play in my mind. We take nothing when we leave, but what Marshall left behind is beautiful. His memory is a blessing. I will miss you my dear friend.
