Dear Nancy,
What can I say! I can only remember with love and warmth the many times Mother took you, Ola, Gail and Gene and me and Tom to dinner to celebrate our anniversaries. Ola taking Tom to your dad's place on Lake Erie and Carl teaching Tom a better way to fry eggs. Ola just being Ola, who was loved and admired by some of the greatest musicians here and beyond. Your talents together were amazing. your writing and his music. I love both of you very much and have always thought of you as another little sister and Ola the brother I wished I had.
Love Joanne

I was a trombone student of Ola's. He was an amazing musician and a great friend. He taught me a lot about jazz and we had a lot of fun in the process.

In all those years sitting right in front of Ola Hanson in the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, I heard every note loud and clear! Whether just playing his part or taking a solo, on every gig he was right there, and when he wasn't great, he was even greater! Such fire, swing, and great humor in his playing. And I loved his lyricism on the violin. We've all had some great times with Ola and Nancy both. When I learned about the recording Jazz Youngblood with Chuz Alfred, I got myself a copy right away and listened to it many, many times. I will truly miss, yet will never forget Ola's sound, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be within his presence on this earth.

All the musicians that attended the
Jazz Arts concerts thought that
Ola was a great trombonist, and we all
enjoyed his violin also----rest in

I was sorry to hear about Ola! I have attended the JAZZ concerts since their beginning at Capital U so have heard Ola play his wonderful instruments so well. We noticed in the December concert that he was not in his usual chair and wondered about him. He will be missed sadly by those who have heard him play.

Ola, what good times we had through the years; Al Waslon's Orchestra, The Capital City Jazz Band, the Cols. Jazz Orchestra, a Tribute to Rusty Bryant. I have plenty tapes to remember you by.
I just wish I didn't have two gigs while friends are gathering to celebrate your life. But, you know, that's what we musicians do; play music, bring joy.
I tell you what, when I have a parade this Saturday with my preschool band, I will tell them that our parade is in honor of you and Big Gary Carney.
As long as we talk about you, you're still here! Love from your boy,
Tom Carroll

To Nancy and Family,
Ola was a good friend and a top shelf musician. I've learned so much about music from him over the last 30 years. But mainly it's the friendship and laughs I'll always cherish.

To Nancy:
I'd love to call your home and hear you and Ola. The love you two have for each other was something to watch.
