Albert Artee "Sonny" Whatley Obituary
Whatley Albert Artee "Sonny" Whatley was born March 16, 1931 in Akron, Ohio and entered eternal rest on July 1, 2017 at the age of 86. Preceding him in death were parents/step-parents Patricia Fleming and Clarence Skurdy, Albert and Janie Whatley, sisters Janice W. Howell, Gwendolyn Crable, grandparents Artee and Percy Fleming and George and Letha Burge (the grandparents who raised him). He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his daughters, Allison Whatley and Robin (Vincent) Beachum; grandchildren, Miles and Madison Beachum; sisters, Beverly Nicholson and Catherine (Robert) Ford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives. Sonny was a retired employee of the State of Ohio and a veteran of the U.S. Army and Navy. He coached with the Columbus Public Schools and was a member and past Master of St. Mark's F&AM Lodge #7. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 1506 E. Long St., Columbus, OH 43203 where family will welcome friends one hour prior; interment with military honors to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens; Rev. Anthony Chatman, presiding.
