Obituary Condolences

Paoletti Aldo F. Paoletti, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at Kobacker House on Friday, April 7, 2017. Preceded in death by mother Pauline and father Sam, two brothers Louis and Donald. Survived by his wife, Joan of 68 years; children, Thomas (Shirley) Paoletti, Krista (Dave) Surrey, Karen Paoletti, JoAnn (Don) Riepenhoff and Dan (Paula) Paoletti; along with grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Paoletti, Amanda (Robert) Wallace, Nathan (Alicia) Surrey, Bethany (Jeff) Martinez, Robert and Sophie Riepenhoff, and Noah, Jonah, and Isabella Paoletti; and seven great grandchildren. His family will greatly miss the love, affection, devotion and guidance he provided to all. Aldo graduated from Aquinas High School and attended Xavier University for two years before volunteering for the Navy's V-5 program leading to a commission as a Navy Ensign and designation as a Naval Aviator during World War II. After flight training, Aldo served as a carrier based fighter pilot assigned to Air Squadron 27, flying missions in the Pacific from the carrier USS Independence. He was promoted to LTJG and awarded the Air Medal for action over Japan. After the war, Aldo completed college at The Ohio State University receiving his B.S. in Education. After a six month whirlwind romance he married Joan Raker of Delta, Ohio. He became part owner of Paoletti Restaurant, the family business in downtown Columbus, and worked there until it's closing in 1972. While working at the restaurant Aldo was elected to serve as President of the Ohio Restaurant Association. He then began a second career as Vice Executive Director of the Association. After retirement, he volunteered with the Service Corp of Retired Executives advising entrepreneurs with developing business plans for new restaurants. Aldo also was able to pursue his love of music, golf, and being with family. Aldo and Joan became members of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church early in their marriage. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass honoring his memory at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1559 Roxbury Rd., Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. Following the Mass, family and friends are invited to join in fellowship and remembrance of Aldo at the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, if desired, please donate to Kobacker House, c/o Ohio Health Foundation, 180 E. Broad Street, 31st Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215 or your choice of charity. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Ohio Health Home Reach Homecare, Kobacker House, Ohio Health Hospice, and Hamilton Healthcare for their dedication, service and kindness.
