Alice Konanz Obituary
Konanz, Alice
1918 - 2018
Alice S. Konanz, died on January 21, 2018, 2 days after her 100th birthday. Preceded in death by beloved husband Robert Roy Konanz, parents Max and Louise Scholz, sisters Charlotte Foerst, Louise Parks, Gerta Vickers and Emma Scholz. Survived by children, Robert Konanz, Susan (Fred) Borthwick; grandchildren, Allison (Chris) Warshaw, Sarah Borthwick, Lisa Steelman; great grandchildren, Carter and Autumn Warshaw; nieces, Carol Foerst, Char (Scott) Steelman, Joyce Ebert; special family friends, Doug Howard, Ric Castorano and Susan Steigerwald. Alice drew strength from her life experiences which began as a child from a poor country family. She grew up during the Depression, experienced the World War II years and, shortly thereafter, her husband's untimely death prior to the birth of Susan. Left to raise her two children, she dedicated herself to her family. As a young woman, she worked as an usherette at the Palace Theatre in the mid- 1930s, later as a secretary at the Hanna Paint Company. She worked 36 years as the personal secretary to Preston Wolfe of the Columbus Dispatch until her retirement at age 78. She was focused, worked hard and loved her country. She was the matriarch of the family, proud of her children and undeniably an independent woman. She was a gardener, writer, cook, caregiver and the host of many great parties and holidays. Alice set an example of how to live life to its fullest with her kindness toward others, honesty and integrity. The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to the staff at Wesley Ridge who cared for her over the past 3-1/2 years. We will miss her but know that she believed in angels and is singing with them right now. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Alice's name to the Wesley Ridge Employee Fund, 2225 Taylor Park, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068. Friends may call Friday 4-7 PM, EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 E. Livingston Ave., where funeral service will be held Saturday 10 AM. Pastor Bruce Benzing officiating. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. www.evansfuneralhome.net
