Arthur E. Baskerville Obituary
Baskerville Arthur E. Baskerville, age 93, born May 14, 1923 in Raleigh, NC, peacefully transitioned Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at his residence. Known as "Red" or "Art", he was a WWII veteran of the U.S Air Force (766th USAF Band) and retired from General Motors. After he was discharged from the military, Art continued playing the trombone and piano and performed with some of the greatest musicians on the local jazz scene and nationwide. He was inducted into the 1999 Jazz Musician's Hall of Fame and was an active member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 589. Art was a member of St. Dominic Church, where he was an active choir member. Predeceased by his wife of 70 years Juanita, son Earl, and five siblings. Survived by daughter, Estelle (Richard) Diehl; son, Ronald (Carmen) Baskerville; grandchildren, Damien (Alisha) Baskerville, Tanya Baskerville, Aaron Diehl and Ingrid Diehl; great grandchildren, Chanel Crow, Cobe Marlor, Jada Baskerville, Aaliyah Baskerville; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass 11 a.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at St. Dominic Church, 453 N. 20th St., where his family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the start of service. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
