Barbara DeFrancis Obituary
DeFrancis, Barbara
Barbara Louise DeFrancis (Hanagan) December 12, 1939-August 24, 2017. A resident of Powell, Barbara was born and raised in Urbana, Ohio. A self-made woman, Barbara moved to Columbus in 1959. She worked her way up from typing theses and dissertations for Ohio State students to retiring from The Ohio State University's Office of University Development after 23 years of service. Extremely self-sufficient, Barbara installed her own wall-to-wall carpeting, stripped and stained furniture and built-in cabinets, paid off her house, kept meticulous care of it and her yard, among other accomplishments. Barbara was an avid knitter, self-taught, who taught others and volunteered at Worthington Library's Warm Up Worthington program knitting afghans for those in need. Barbara died as she lived: on her own terms. There will be no funeral home services. Instead, Barbara has planned a celebration of life to be held at the Fawcett Center on Sunday, September 24 from 2-5. Please join us to share food, stories, and laughter. There also will be no burial. Always fascinated by forensics, Barbara has donated her body to the Body Farm at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Survived by Scooter, her constant companion for 9 years; her children Andy (Tracey), Theresa (Kathy), Tony, and Rita (Ken); 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; her sister, Peg (Louis) Halk; her cousins, Jean Murphy and Peggy McNamee; dear friends Tony and Leane DeFrancis, Terry Windler, and the Pope family, along with extended family and friends. A special thank you to Dr. McConnell and Dr. Dewani for giving Barbara 3 more years. Barbara requests that donations be made in her name to a children's .
