Barbara Sullivan Obituary
Sullivan, Barbara
Barbara Klara (Neugebauer) Sullivan, age 74, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on November 21, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to parents Albin and Annemarie Neugebauer. She was a 1961 graduate of Saint Mary High School. At 17, she began a 53-year career with the federal government, starting as a file clerk with the Bureau of Public Roads and retiring as a group supervisor with the Social Security Administration's Office of Hearings and Appeals. She intended to continue serving others in retirement; if not for her illness, she was planning to volunteer at Reeb Avenue Center to assist low-income people in obtaining disability benefits. Barbara loved to travel; she accepted year-long assignments in Korea and in Germany, where she met "GI Joel," her husband of 49 years. In 2015, she took her family on a trip to scenic southern Germany to share memorable moments of her life and to visit with family. She also enjoyed sewing and cuddling with her two miniature schnauzers, Buddy and Jack, who gave her great comfort during her extended illness. She is survived by her loving husband, Joel Sullivan; her children Ryan (Diana) Sullivan, Angela Sullivan; granddaughters Kate and Fiona; sister Anna (Josef) Donhauser; brothers George (Linda) Neugebauer and Tom Neugebauer; and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at MAEDER-QUINT-TIBERI Funeral Home, 1068 S. High St., Columbus; Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 10 am at St. Leo Church, 221 Hanford St., Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Save Saint Mary Church Capital Campaign ([email protected]). Finally, the Sullivan Family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the OSU James Cancer Hospital for the exceptional care they provided.
