Jardine, Barret
1932 - 2017
Barret Scott "Barry" Jardine, 85, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017. He was born March 5, 1932 in the heart of Los Angeles to the late Robert and Helena Jardine. Barry attended St. Brendan's Elementary School and Loyola High School, where he was an excellent student and played tackle on the football team. He then went to the University of Southern California, where he received his Bachelors in Architecture and met Louise Steere, whom he married in 1954. Barry designed many beautiful homes and buildings in the Los Angeles area. He loved traveling, beach volleyball, bodysurfing, card games, and he especially loved people. Barry became a stock broker in the late 60s, and then he became a world champion poker and backgammon player. He was a fixture at Pips Backgammon club in Beverly Hills in the late 70s. In 1979, Barry moved to St. Thomas Virgin Islands to renovate the historic Hotel 1829, and lived there for several years designing homes on St. John. In the mid-80s, Barry moved to Australia to design a thoroughbred horse farm and homes. In 1987, Barry moved to Columbus, Ohio, the town he loved, where he practiced architecture and worked until the day he died. He loved people and telling stories and had a love for life. Barry is survived by his five children, John, Richard, Robert, Jennifer and Mark; his grandchildren, Bryce, Katie, Trevor, Michelle, Kira and Katya; and great-grandchildren, Poppy and Rex. The Celebration of Life gathering will be held today, Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 3-6 pm at the Athletic Club of Columbus. Anyone who loved Barry is invited to attend.
