McCray Betty Jean Slaughter McCray, born November 19, 1947, in Saginaw, MI, became deceased Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus, OH after a long battle with stroke-related complications. Betty, known by family, friends, and neighbors for her warm and infectious smile, witty sense of humor, and firm voice for right; was a person of Christian principles and faith; and a love for family, food, art, music, travel, and sense of style. Betty spent over 50 years of her life as a dedicated Jehovah's Witness, starting first in Chicago, IL, and in her final years, as a member of the Canal Winchester Congregation in Columbus, OH; volunteering to assist many interested persons to learn more about their Bibles and about our Loving Heavenly Father Jehovah God, and His Son, Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by father and mother Jesse Slaughter and Alberta Henderson Slaughter of Chicago, IL, siblings Jimmy (Jeanette) Slaughter, Lionel Slaughter, Linda Slaughter, Ralph (Vanessa) Slaughter of Chicago, IL. Betty is survived by and will be missed by husband, James McCray; daughter, Jennifer McCray; son, Corey McCray, of Columbus, OH; siblings, Roger (Mary) Slaughter, David (Valoria) Slaughter of Columbus, OH, Geraldine Slaughter Armstrong of Chicago, IL, Willie (Nettie) McCray of Chicago, IL, Bernice McCray of White Plains, NY, Shirley Anderson of Washington, DC; along with a host of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 7180 Refugee Rd., Pickerington, OH 43147, on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. and will be officiated by Rodney Jones.
