Father Carmen Joseph Arcuri, died on August 20, 2017, while in Palliative Care at Mount Carmel-East Hospital; he was a resident at the Villas at Saint Therese. The son of Constantine and Elizabeth (Conti) Arcuri, he was born January 7, 1935, in Marion, Ohio. He was baptized at Saint Mary Parish (Marion) and educated at the both Saint Mary Elementary School and Saint Mary High School (Marion). He began studies and formation for the priesthood at the former Saint Charles Borromeo College Seminary (Columbus) earning his Bachelor in Philosophy in 1957, followed by studies at Mount Saint Mary Seminary (Norwood, Ohio) receiving his Theology degree in 1961. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest at Saint Joseph Cathedral on May 27, 1961 by the Most Reverend Clarence G. Issenmann, Bishop of Columbus. During his years of priestly service to Christ, His Church, and the souls entrusted to his care, Father Arcuri served as associate pastor, Saint Michael Parish (Worthington) with teaching duties at Bishop Watterson High School; associate pastor, Sacred Heart Parish (Coshocton); associate pastor, Saint Ladislas Parish (Columbus) with teaching duties at Father Wehrle High School; associate pastor, Saint Leo Parish (Columbus); pastor, Saint Matthew Parish (Mount Gilead); administrator pro-tem, Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish (Columbus); associate pastor, Saint Joseph Cathedral; pastor, Saint Mary Parish (Waverly); chaplain, London Correctional Institute (London); associate pastor, Saint Phillip Parish (Columbus); Military Chaplain, Naval Chaplain School, Rhode Island, and later chaplain, U.S. Naval Air Facility, Atsugi, Japan; associate pastor, Saint Paul Parish (Westerville); pastor, Saint John Neumann (Sunbury); and associate pastor, Saint Mary Magdalene (Columbus) until his retirement in 2005. Father Arcuri spent a number of his retired years in residence at Saint Michael Parish (Worthington) before taking up residence at the Villas at Saint Therese. Father Arcuri is survived by his brothers, Earnie and Michael; and sisters, Marie Rowland, Carolyn Jarvis, and Victoria McKnight. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 23, 2-7 p.m., with Rosary beginning at 7 p.m., at Saint Michael Church, 5750 North High Street, Worthington. Calling hours will resume Thursday, August 24, 9:30 a.m. at Saint Michael Church, until just prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. The Most Reverend Frederick F. Campbell will be the principal celebrant and homilist; retired Bishop James A. Griffin will concelebrate, as will the priests of the Diocese; burial will immediately follow in the priests section at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Long-Term Health Care Fund for Retired Priests at the Diocese of Columbus, 198 East Broad Street, Columbus, 43215.
