Carolyn Smith Obituary
Smith, Carolyn
1930 - 2018
Carolyn J. Smith, age 87, of Pickerington, died Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at her residence. She was born August 15, 1930 in Columbus to the late Garland and Mildred (Stultz) Gerald. Carolyn was a 1949 graduate of Worthington High School; during that time she was the first female in the state at Worthington High to take and pass Driver's Ed. She worked as Jerome Schottenstein's personal administrative assistant for over 25 years. Carolyn was a passionate supporter of Nationwide Children's Hospital. She appreciated many cold winters spent in Florida. Her love was being by the water, relaxing and watching the cardinals; whether in Florida or multiple different lake houses. Carolyn cherished time spent with her family most; she would leave them with her "narrow minded opinion" at all times. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Norman Smith, son Tim Smith, sisters Beverly Wozniak, Diane Thompson, and Pamela Gregg, son-in-law Tom DiPietro. Carolyn is survived by her children, Michael (Cheryl) Smith, Debbie DiPietro, Jerry (Beth) Smith; daughter-in-law, Lise Smith; grandchildren, Adam (Melinda) Jared (Kara), Justin (Danielle), Ashley (Paul), Joe (Erica), Carolyn (Chris), Laura (Alex), Deborah (Matt), Katherine (Rob), Courtney, Jordan, Dylan, Logan, Donnie, Shelby, Matt; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Richard Gregg, Galen Thompson, and Ron Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday, February 16, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Rd. N., Pickerington, OH 43147, where a funeral service, officiated by Dr. Carl Wiley, will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, February 17. Interment Violet Cemetery. In Carolyn's memory, donations can be made to Nationwide Children's Hospital, 630 Children's Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43205. Online condolences at www.spencefuneralhome.com
