Charles E. Howard Sr., age 80, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at his residence. He was born January 20, 1937 in Keystone, WV, son of the late Willard and Viola (Sizemore) Howard. He was a Navy veteran and was retired from Anchor Hocking with 25 years of service. He was also a 50 year member of the Boy Scouts of America where he retired with 21 years of service. He received many awards throughout his career including the OA Vigil Honor, James E. West Foundation Award, Silver Beaver, and Award of Merit. He led Cub Scout Pack 34 at South School, then Troop 141 at St. Mary School. He served as camp ranger for 12 years at Camp Falling Rock in Newark and then 9 years at Camp Lazarus in Delaware. Although he joined scouting too late to become an Eagle Scout, he raised many. May he soar with Eagles, always. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ivy (Young) Howard; children, Charles E. (Edie Miller) Howard Jr. of Jackson, and Angela Massey of Columbus; grandchildren, Keith Massey and William Howard; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME, 222 S. Columbus St., Lancaster with Chaplain Kermit Welty officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family requests memorial contributions to the Simon Kenton Council Camperships for Summer Camp, Boy Scouts of America, 807 Kinnear Rd., Columbus, OH 43212.
