Obituary Condolences

Walz Charles J. Walz, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017. Mr. Walz loved Columbus his hometown and has been active in several local organizations and activities. Early on he attended local schools and graduated from Ohio State University majoring in political science. He is a former member of Sigma Pi fraternity and remains a member of the OSU alumni Association. He served many years as a public administrator, such as head of the purchasing operations for the city of Columbus and then later as bureau chief of purchasing for Ohio department of transportation from which he retired. In the past, Mr. Walz had a strong interest in German Village, its restoration and its heritage; he was a member of the German Village Commission serving as representative of the mayor's Administrative staff. In the area of handicapped, he was awarded a certification of appreciation by the Ohio Industries for the handicapped for his personal contribution; he was commissioned as Kentucky Colonel in 1982. His military service included ROTC, World War II Navy veteran attached to CASU No. 36 and served in the American campaign. He belonged to Aladdin Shrine Chanters and was past president of that unit. He had been past president of Downtown High Twelve Club and also belonged to the Athletic Club of Columbus for many years. He was a former member of the Country Club of Naples Florida. Mr. Walz was a long time member of Brookwood Presbyterian Church having served as a Sunday school superintendent, elder, trustee, and Clerk of the Sessions. He has been married to his wife, Ada, for 75 years. He is survived by sons, Charles Walz and his wife, Ana Milena and Eric Walz and his wife, Pati. He also has three grandchildren, Todd Walz, Kevin Walz, and Amanda Walz, and is survived by five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Pamela L. Walz and grandson Ryan M. Walz. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community-Kimes Chapel, 2225 Taylor Park Dr., Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068. Entombment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Brookwood Presbyterian Church, 2685 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43209. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL.
