Carter Christopher "Chris" Carter, 51, of London, Ohio, won his battle with cancer on May 2, 2017 at the OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Born April 18, 1966 in London; he was the son of William and Anne (Goodson) Carter. Chris graduated from London High School in 1985 and Clark State University in 1986 with his Ohio Peace Officer's Training Academy Certification. Chris had a love for Public Safety. In 1985, he became a commissioned Madison County Sheriff's Deputy and joined the Central Townships Fire Department. He was a Police Officer for the State Hospital and the London Police Department until 1995. He then joined the Madison County Sheriff's Office fulltime joining lifelong friend Sgt Teena Gallagher to instruct DARE and GREAT to thousands of youth throughout Madison County. In 2005, Chris was promoted to the Detective Bureau. In 2010, he was promoted to Sergeant within the Detective Bureau. It could be said Chris didn't have a job rather he had a hobby he loved attending every day. Chris had many hobbies and passions. First and foremost, he loved his Family and Friends! Chris enjoyed his John Deere Tractor, his pristinely cut lawn, listening to Country Music and 80's Rock Music, Roosters, vacationing in Hilton Head with this toes in the water and toes in the sand. Oh, and we can now share his favorite Keno Numbers; 45, 46, 47, 48 and 49 and wish you best of luck. Chris is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Tracy (Powers) Carter; a devoted father to Adam (fiancée, Emily Collins), Nathan, Katelyn and K-9 daughter, Daisey Carter, all of London; parents, William and Anne (Goodson) Carter; sister, Jeanne (Mike) Elfrink; brother, Randy (Betsy) Carter; sisters-in-law, Penny Powers and April (Chris) Cotton; nieces and nephews, Derrick and Alexa Elfrink, Julie and Anthony Miniaci, Megan and Allison Carter; aunts, uncles, cousins, many special friends and the Madison County Sheriff's Office. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Nick and Louise Carter and Thelma and Ralph Goodson, family friend Judy "Mother" Shutter. Chris never met a stranger whether he was in Chuckery, Burr Oaks, Kileville, Grassy Point or any place in between. Service will be held Monday, May 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the St. Patrick Church, 61 S. Union St., London, Ohio with Father Chris Coleman and Father Mark Ghiloni officiating. Visitation will be observed on Sunday, May 7 from 3-8 p.m. at the St. Patrick Parish Center. Memorials in Chris's memory may be made to the Madison County DARE Program, P.O. Box 558, London, Ohio 43140.
