Coy Finley Franklin, age 52, died peacefully on January 15, 2018, in Saitama, Japan, after returning from spending a great Christmas visit with his family in Worthington. Coy's death was the result of glioblastoma brain cancer. The oldest of four children, Coy was born March 30, 1965, in Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism. Fluent in Japanese, Coy taught English in the Japanese public schools for several years and later established and operated his own language school in Japan. Preceded in death by father Dr. Clyde W. Franklin, II, paternal grandparents Coy and Bernice Franklin, maternal grandparents Eli "Big Papa" Finley and Rozelle G. "Big Mama" Pickett, a favorite aunt Nannie G. Childs, and nephew Michael Franklin. Survived by mother, Dr. Alice Franklin Elder; sister, Alison G. "Ali" Franklin; brothers, Sean C. Franklin and Clyde W. Franklin, III; dear aunts, Eudora P. Nelson of California, Malissa P. Robinson of Texas, and Lynetra McGee of Arkansas; uncle, Earnest C. Pickett of Illinois; and a host of special cousins, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life 10 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Living Waters Christian Fellowship, 1824 Cleveland Ave., where his family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of service.
