Girves Dave Girves was born in Akron on June 22, 1943, and died in his home on January 16, 2015 surrounded by loving family. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children and their spouses, Catherine Girves and Jeff Gove, Michelle Girves, John and Nicole Girves; his grandchildren, Alex, Maya, Ryan, Logan, Bryce, and Bailey; his siblings and in-laws, Ken and Suzanne, Gayle, Jean, Jim and Ed Paul, Patricia and Charlie Jackson, and Pam and Ron Alexander. Dave married Sherry in 1963 and graduated from Cornell University in 1964. From 1965-1996 Dave operated the Jai Lai Restaurant; he was active in both the Central Ohio Restaurant Association and the Ohio Restaurant Association for many years. Thereafter he worked for Wendy's then Meijer. In 2008, Dave became inspired by Senator Barrack Obama and became politically active for the first time in his life, volunteering 40-50 hours per week to support the election of the President. Following the 2008 election, Dave continued to volunteer tirelessly to support President Obama's agenda until just a few weeks before his death. Dave worked to support universal healthcare, the protection of workers, marriage equality, immigration reform, environmental protection and clean energy, sensible gun control, public education, and full access for women's reproductive health. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 1st at he Ohio Democratic Party Headquarters, 340 East Fulton St., where family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. Online condolences may be made at
