David E. Harris, 75, of Plain City, passed away, Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 31, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Joseph Francis and Mary Elizabeth (Burkert) Harris. A 1960 graduate of Bishop Watterson High School, David then attended OSU and St. Louis University. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He was the owner and operator of Harris Instrument Corporation. David considered himself a "problem solver" with his many inventions. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Plain City and a former Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. David was a charter member of the Father Edward Fitzgerald Council of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph Plain City. He taught CCD classes at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was active in the Marriage Encounter Movement. A member of the Columbus Maennerchor since 1958, where he served as Vice President and Bass Section Leader. David developed the first Community Garden in Columbus which grew fresh fruits and vegetables for the Clintonville Community Resource Center, CRC. It was an impactful addition to the Clintonville Community. He loved fishing, gardening and music, not necessarily in that order. In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Franz Harris. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dee Kathleen (Stuteville) Harris, whom he married on February 27, 1968; children, Catherine (Michael III) O'Keefe, John (Lee-Anne) Harris, Joseph Harris, Sarah (Jon) Cowan, Edward Harris; grandchildren, Alissa, Michael IV, Celia, Natasha, David, Hans, Emilie, Natalie, Maria, Joseph, Anna, Deirdre; great grandchildren, Patrick, Marina, and one on the way; brother, Thomas C. (Mary) Harris; sister-in-law, Sharon Harris. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday at the Parish Activity Center (PAC) at 670 West Main St, Plain City, Ohio 43064. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church 2165 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223 with Father Toner presiding.
