Dean J. Stavrides Obituary
Stavrides Lt. Commander Dean J. Stavrides (USN Retired), age 81, passed away after a brief illness at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, TN, on May 22, 2017. Born in Columbus and a longtime resident of Worthington, graduated from The Ohio State University - Class of 1959, and South High School - Class of 1954. A career Naval Officer, he served worldwide for twenty years. As a member of Attack Squadron 83 aboard the USS Forrestal he made two cruises to the Mediterranean Sea, served at Guam, MI, Seoul, South Korea, Training Squadron 3 and Attack Squadron 174. He also served at NARTU Jacksonville, FL and retired from NARTU Memphis, TN in 1979. He retired again from the Defense Security Service/DISCO Columbus in 1998. He greatly enjoyed his Naval experience and was especially proud of his Hellenic heritage. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 35 years Joan Marie Visintine and parents James and Mary Stavrides. He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Norman) Dewvall of Memphis, TN, LCDR James (Cindy) Stavrides USN RET of Arlington, TN, and Alexander (Theresa) Stavrides of Westerville; along with grandchildren, Marianna, Elena, Isabella, Sophia, Jacob, Zachary and Holly; great granddaughter, Rayne; sister, Anna Lagiss of Palm Desert, CA; cousin, Perry Stavrides of Columbus; and very special friend, Diane Greer of Worthington. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street. His funeral will follow immediately at 10:30 a.m. with Father Demetrios Gardikes officiating. Burial with Military Honors will ensue at Resurrection Cemetery.
