Demetrios Michaelides Obituary
Michaelides Demetrios Michaelides, age 96, passed away March 29, 2016. Born November 8, 1919 in Asia Minor. He immigrated to the United States in 1951 after marrying Evangeline Vasilion of Dayton, Ohio in 1950. They built a life together in Columbus, Ohio. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Evangeline, sister Loula (George) Christ, and brother Seraphim (Aretoula) Michaelides. Survived by children, Thomas (Jackie) Michaelides and Elizabeth (John) Trapp; grandchildren, Christopher (Alexandra) Michaelides, Demetrios T (Lindsey) Michaelides, Christian Trapp, Julia Trapp, William Trapp; and great-grandson, Stanley Michaelides. Demetrios was an active member of The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Greek Olympic Society, and annual Greek Festival. He retired after 31 years of service from the Smith Family owned, Instantwhip Foods, Inc./G Frederick Smith Chemical Company. He was a life-long soccer fan; as an accomplished amateur player, college referee, and spectator of all his grandchildren's soccer activities. He was a regular front row fan at Columbus Crew SC home games always surrounded by friends and family. He enjoyed spirited games of backgammon with his dearest friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. with Trisagion Service at 6:30 p.m. at O. R. WOODYARD NORWEST CHAPEL, 2990 Bethel Rd. Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 N. High St. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contribution can be made to The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 555 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.
