Moore Donald Paul Moore Sr., age 90, of Logan, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his residence. Born August 14, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Walter Jennings and Dora (Hill) Moore. Don was a 1944 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Franklin County, Ohio. Later that year, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy and spent 1 1/2 years as an instructor of radar and long range navigation during WWII. At age 19, Don met his late wife Elizabeth Gerretje "Liz" (Derksen) Moore (2013) and they were married on December 18, 1949, a marriage which would last 64 years. He attended the University of Dayton for two years before transferring to Ohio State University. Don went on to receive a Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1954, a Bachelor's of Industrial Management from Franklin University in 1969, a Master's of Industrial Management from Central Michigan University in 1974, and a Bachelor's of Real Estate from Franklin University in 1981. He worked as a Research Technician for the OSU Department of Nuclear Physics from 1949-1958, Research Associate for the OSU ElectroScience Laboratory from 1954-1958, Professor of Electronics and Computer Science at Franklin University Technical College from 1958-1978, Plant Engineer at Franklin University from 1978-1988, Technical Writer for the Liebert Corporation in 1991, and Chief Engineer for the City of Columbus Division of Electricity from 1991-1992. Among his many accomplishments, Don was a life member of the OSU Electrical Engineers fraternity Eta Kappa Nu, obtained his Commercial Radio Operator, Professional Engineer, Stationary Steam Engineer, and Real Estate licenses, and became an Ohio Certified Building Inspector and Certified Energy Auditor. He was a Certified Fallout Shelter Analyst for the U.S. Department of Defense, Editor of both the Columbus IEEE Newsletter and FCC-OSPE Columbus Engineer, Publication Chairman of Ohio Engineer, Research and Publications Chairman of the Franklin County Genealogical Society, and received the Scouter's Key Award for leadership from the Boy Scouts of Grandview Heights. Following retirement, Don and Liz settled in Logan and he became a census worker and historian with Fairview United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family on his 68 acre farm, complete with a cave, barn, two ponds, trees, and wildlife. Don was a member of the Amvets Post 1776, American Legion, and the Hocking County Honor Guard, proudly serving veterans for over 15 years. He is survived by eight children, Elizabeth Anne (Wesley) Cox, Donald Paul Moore Jr., Dora Darlene Mann, Peter John (Karen) Moore, William Walter (Susan) Moore, Richard Roland (Terri) Moore, Norman Eric (Carol) Moore, and Emily Rose (Kevin) Solon; 24 grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Earl "Jerry" Moore; and two sisters, Shirley Anitra and Margorie Eileen Huston. Besides his wife and parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother Norman David Moore. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Fairview United Methodist Church, Good-Hope Township, Hocking County, Ohio with Reverend John T. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, next to the church, where a military service will be conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard. Friends may call Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME in Logan, Ohio and on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church.
