Donald Gale Spangler, died suddenly on November 19, 2017 in Dublin. Don was born in Columbus in 1947. He married Janice Varga (née Smith) in 1996. Don graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1965. An inveterate tinkerer, Don was the original owner of the Westerville Bike Shop. Don later owned and managed the Glengarry Shell station in Westerville and the Sawmill Marathon station in Columbus. He was the recipient of many service awards from the Marathon Oil Company. Don loved gardening, travel, and his family. He engaged in a spirited running battle with the wildlife at his home. He enjoyed visiting Oglebay and New England with Jan. Don was a loving husband, father, and devoted grandfather to his one grandson with whom he spent many happy hours as Lego architect and engineer extraordinaire. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Jan; daughter, Kim (Nathan) DeDino (whom he shared with his former wife, Candice); grandson, Calder; sisters, Carol Wilcox and Marian (Dan) Large; sister-in-law, Joyce Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents James Arnold and Mary (Hittle) Spangler. Visitation hours will be November 25, from 10 AM-12 PM at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 W.
