Doris M. France Obituary
France, Doris M.
1924 - 2019
Doris Mitchell George France, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 9, 2019, at the age of 94. She was born on July 1, 1924 in Plain City, Ohio to Margaret (Horn) Mitchell and William Curry ("Mike") Mitchell on her mother's birthday, the first of their 3 children. Her heritage included some of the earliest settlers of the Plain City area and these deep roots have kept much of her family still in the area. Doris was small in stature and was nicknamed, "Puny" by her childhood friends. With her wonderful sense of humor, she embraced the name and was still called "Puny" by some for the rest of their lives. She was named "DeDe' by her first grandchild and remained "DeDe" to her family and friends throughout the rest of her life. Doris raised four children while enjoying an extended career in banking. After retirement she led an active life with family, friends, and travel being her chief interests. She was a life long member of the Plain City Presbyterian Church and maintained many friendships with others having Plain City roots, and with those she met during her winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Thomas M. George (1987), her second husband Thomas J. France (2005), her step-son Steven France (2013), her brothers and sisters-in-law John C. "Jack" (Jean) Mitchell and William A. (Tica) Mitchell, and by twin great granddaughters (2012). She is survived by her four children, Michael (Barbara) George, Nancy (Ross Walker) Chapman, Peggy (Paul Stone) George, and Ann Marie (Rod) Spittle; her step-son, Thomas (Deanne) George; her 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Doris France leaves a legacy of courage, love, laughter and family. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Her Life will be held Saturday, January 19, at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main Street, Plain City, Ohio. Visitation with the family will be 10-11:30 AM with the Service following. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her favorite charity, Shepherd's Heart Veteran's Home, 13 Pride St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219, (by PayPal to shepheart.com), or to the Plain City Presbyterian Church- Window Fund.
