The Beloved Reverend Dorothea Ames Maloney, died on Sunday, November 26, 2017 after living a rich and productive life as a true blessing to innumerable people. She was born on September 10, 1926 to Violet and Ray Ames in Buffalo, New York. After graduating from Bennett High School, she attended Bethany College, graduating with a degree in psychology and music. She married Charles Cram, now deceased, and they were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Becky and Valerie. Dorothea was a wonderful soprano soloist and performed in church choirs and other venues for many years, until she entered Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, NJ in 1975 to pursue a Master of Divinity degree. After completion of her studies, which included a year at the Urban Theology Unit in Sheffield, England, she received an MDiv degree in 1979 and was ordained a United Methodist pastor, serving Christ United Methodist Church and Carlton Hills United Methodist Church in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In 1978, she married Gerald Maloney, who shared her ministry as a minister's spouse for the next 39 years. In 1982, they moved to Columbus, Ohio, where Dorothea was appointed pastor of the Thurman Avenue United Methodist Church where she served for eight years, until she retired in 1990. After one year of retirement, she was invited to join the staff of Bexley United Methodist Church as associate pastor for Congregational care, where she served for the next 25 years with great joy and loving care. All her life, she has been a blessing, a joy and a peaceful presence to all who knew her and have loved her so much. Words cannot express how greatly she will be missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Ray Ames and our son, Michael Maloney.
