Russell Dorothy "Dotte" Louise (Turner) Russell, age 84, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio. Born in 1930 in Decatur, Illinois. Member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus. Founding member of the Poets and Writers Guild. Active with the Humanist Community of Central Ohio and the Central Ohioans for Peace. Fine painter and published poet. Program Director for Artreach Gallery in the Short North. Educator for AmeriCorps VISTA. Commercial artist for the Decatur Herald and Review, the OSU Extension Service, and Merrill Publishing. Former Chair of the Central Ohio ACLU. Life-long activist, avid reader and book collector. Earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from The Ohio State University. Preceded in death by her parents James Turner and Rose (née Rush) (Turner) Hexum, husband Hal G. Russell, sisters Leona Steenblock, Beulah Baker, Lula Turner and Lois Kathleen Turner. Survived by children, Hal J., Kevin, Lisa (Mary), and D. Rose Russell; granddaughter, Brooke Russell Burch; step-granddaughter, Courtney Miers; brother-in-law, William Steenblock; nieces, Karon Zeiters, and Judy Mills; grand niece, Tiffany Gehrke and her sons, Ty and AJ. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 1-2 p.m., where a service will follow at 2 p.m. Reception to follow from 3-6 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus, 93 W.
