Dorothy Sherer Reight, age 86, died Sunday, September 10, 2017 at her home on Buckeye Lake surrounded by her family. She was born February 3, 1931 in Crestline, Ohio to Ralph and Elsie Sherer. Dot graduated from Capital University in 1953. She interned her senior year at the medical technology program at OSU. She worked in the OSU chemistry laboratory for a short time after graduation, going back to the OSU lab in 1974 and working there until she was 75 years old. Dot married James L. Ryan in 1954 and she joined him when he was stationed in Japan that year. They had three children, lived in Crestline and then Columbus. After her husband's death in in 1974, she married Fred Reight. They enjoyed living on Buckeye Lake, golfing, wintering on the beach in Florida, and attending many Buckeye football games. She also loved playing bridge, sudoku, and recently took up mahjong. She loved traveling with her family all over the United States and the world. She loved taking care of her family, especially by baking chocolate chip cookies. She is survived by her husband, Fred Reight; and her children, Micky Ryan (John Olmsted), Mark Ryan and Michael Ryan (Kelly Boso); her six grandchildren, Shana Alexander (Jared), Jared Ryan (Heather), Brandon Ryan, Owen Ryan (Kate), Dustin Ryan (Abigail) and Matt Ryan (Whitney). She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren and many other family and friends. Please join us this Saturday, September 16 at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark from 1-4 p.m., we will celebrate Dot's amazing life. Dot's greatest wish upon her death was that her body be donated to the OSU College of Medicine Body Donation Program. She was accepted and we would encourage anyone who wishes to make a donation in her memory to donate to that program at The Division of Anatomy, Body Donor Program, 279 Hamilton Hall, 1645 Neil Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43210.
