Edward J. "Skip" Potter II Obituary
Potter II, Edward J. "Skip"
Loved Life and Lived It. Edward J. "Skip" Potter II, of Naples, FL, formerly of Columbus, OH, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife, Nancy, and many family members and special friends on March 21, 2018. He was born to the late Edward J. Potter and Mary Potter in 1937 Wilmerding, PA. Skip joined the Army 82nd Airborne Division, as he tells it, "Because they offered to pay for my college education." After being honorably discharged, he moved to Columbus, OH where he was the Mercedes Benz dealer for 46 years until his retirement. He moved to Siesta Key, FL and later to Naples, FL. Over the years Skip helped countless people in so many ways that he was nicknamed "St. Skip." He was big in supporting charities sharing his time, talent, and treasure. He was known for his philanthropy to Champions For Learning, Kidney Foundation, Arthritis Foundation, Rotary Learn To Earn, and numerous other organizations and causes, including Ohio State University where he was a major benefactor creating the Naples Buckeye Scholarship, donating Potter Plaza in the center of campus, and supporting the Buckeyes in many other ways. In addition to his big heart, Skip was well known for his sense of humor and charm. He never knew a stranger and those blessed with meeting him found that their lives were better for knowing him. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy "Jaynie" Potter; his four loving children, Donna Fowler, Ed (Sharon) Potter III, Patti Falvey, and Michael Potter; six grandchildren, Jason (Jen) Aleshire, Danielle Potter, Shannon (Paul Karshner, fiancé) Potter, Michael Potter II, Faith (Jason Hollingsworth, fiancé) Potter; four great grandchildren, Demi Potter, Westin Potter, Vonn Aleshire, and Lani Potter; his sister, Ronette Tedori and family; his brothers, John (Kathy) Potter and family, Terry Potter and family, and Dan Potter and family; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 414 8th Ave S, Naples, FL 34102, with a Celebration of Life luncheon immediately following at the church hall. Skip loved to travel the world with Nancy and made friends wherever they went. Their famous themed New Year's Eve Parties were an International affair with friends coming from around the world. Skip shared his wisdom, foresight, and experience to help other up-and-coming entrepreneurs, especially in the automotive and restaurant industries, who have subsequently grown into national recognition. Nancy and Skip would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and techs at Naples Community Hospital Downtown who took extra special care and showed great compassion during his brief illness and the hospice nurses. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Skip's memory may be made to the Champions for Learning, 3606 Enterprise Ave, Suite 150, Naples, Florida 34104, www.championsforlearning.org/give.
