Edward T. White Jr. Obituary
White Edward T. White, Jr., age 79, passed away unexpectedly on April 15, 2017. Born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1937, he is preceded in death by parents Edward T. and Dorothy E. White, Sr. He earned a BA from Pennsylvania State University in 1962 where he lettered in varsity football. He was also Chapter President of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. During his 28 year career in the USAF, he accumulated over 5,000 hours in nearly every model of the B-52. He completed 3 tours of duty to Vietnam, accumulating 422 combat missions and 1,000 combat hours. He was a Distinguished Graduate of the USAF Instrument Pilot Instructor School and the SAC Instrument Instructor School. He was a Distinguished Graduate of the USAF Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and the Air War College. Upon graduation from the Air War College, he was promoted to Colonel and served on the Air Staff at the Pentagon Division of Strategic Forces. Later, he served as the Director of Student Operations and the Dean of Academics at the Air Command and Staff College. His last assignment was as Chairman of Aerospace Studies at The Ohio State University. His civilian university academic credentials include a Master of Political Science from Auburn University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Alabama and a Doctorate of Public Administration from the University of Alabama. After retiring from the USAF, he embarked on a second career in state government where he became the Chief of Technology for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and subsequently served as the Director of Technology in the Governor's Office of Criminal Justice Services. He finally wrapped up his civilian service as an instrument instructor pilot for Flight Safety International at Port Columbus. He retired in 2005 and lived in Pickaway County with his wife of 52 years, Plina. He is an avid model railroader and loves woodworking, computers, and his two yellow Labrador Retrievers. He is survived by his son, Edward T. White IlI; daughter-in-law, Missy; his two daughters, Sheila Farber and Sheri Hart and their husbands, Chuck and Kevin; grandchildren include Braden Edward White, and Kennedy C., Kaleigh C. and Kelsi C. Hart. Family will receive friends from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 6699 N. High Street in Worthington, where his Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Funeral Celebrant Andrew Hoover, officiating. Ed will be buried with full military honors at the Arlington National Cemetery overlooking the Pentagon where he worked.
