Elaine Lemeshow Obituary
Lemeshow, Elaine
1949 - 2017
After a 22-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Elaine Lemeshow passed away on October 2nd, 2017 at the age of 67. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Marisha Kahn. She is survived by her husband, Stan Lemeshow; her children, Jenya Lemeshow, Adina Lemeshow (Jay Katsir), and Steven Lemeshow (Hannah Engel); grandsons, Ezra and Eli Katsir; and sisters, Sharon Kahn (Richard Lehr) and Joyce Kahn. Elaine was born in Charleston, South Carolina, the eldest of three daughters of Jack and Marisha Kahn. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she met and fell in love with her future husband, Stan Lemeshow. Elaine and Stan lived for four years in Los Angeles, California, where Elaine obtained a Masters Degree in Special Education from the Marianne Frostig Center. They later moved to Amherst, Massachusetts, where they lived for 23 years and raised their three beautiful children, Jenya, Adina, and Steven. In 1999, Elaine and Stan moved to Bexley Ohio. Elaine continued her work in special education, working in the Columbus Public Schools and as a private tutor. She also obtained an advanced Orton-Gillingham certification, a training protocol designed for teaching students with dyslexia. Elaine was a very special person, who will be greatly missed by friends and family. She was sweet, but strong, sensitive and kind, and thoughtful and considerate, continuing to think of and express concern for others even in the midst of battling her devastating illness. From a young age, she was a role model for others and was looked up to by so many. She was loved by all whose lives she touched. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4th at the Epstein Memorial Chapel, 3232 E. Main St. Burial will be at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. Shiva will be observed Wednesday afternoon and early evening at the Lemeshow residence. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) or the Southern Poverty Law Center (www.splcenter.org).
