1928 - 2017
Ernest Dante "Swede" Svensson, age 89, of Columbus, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017. Swede was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, son of the late Karl and Dagmar Svensson, and was preceded in death by his brother Bob Svensson. Swede graduated from Boston Public Latin, the oldest public school in the nation, at age 16. He completed his undergraduate studies and Master's Degree at Tufts University and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery at The Ohio State University in 1959. Swede proudly served his country for more than 25 years in the U.S. Air Force. In 1975, he returned to Columbus where he taught prosthodontics in the College of Dentistry for 42 years, mentoring countless students, while also maintaining a private practice. Swede served as Secretary of the Carl O. Boucher Prosthodontic Conference for over 30 years and was honored in 2010 by having its annual lecture series named "The E.D. Svensson Lecture Series." He was the recipient of the OSU Dentistry Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011 and was inducted into the College of Dentistry Prosthodontic Hall of Fame in 2016. Swede was humble and gracious, the quintessential gentleman who always put others before himself. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Jan; children, Linda (Larry) Gable, Mark (Suzanne) Svensson and Carol (Jerry) Jenkins; grandchildren, Christopher (Lauren Spadafora), Bryan and Matthew Gable, and Hayley and Aubrey Svensson; brother, Karl (Pat) Svensson; many extended family members, beloved students, and dear friends.
