Eugene "Gene" Lauber, 89, of Columbus, died peacefully Saturday, November 11, 2017 at home of natural causes. Born in Columbus 1928 the son of Leonard and Catherine. He attended St Thomas Aquinas High School. He was a proud veteran serving in the First Cavalry during the Korean Conflict. He always stood for the national anthem. He worked for Ohio Bell for 37 years before retirement. He was a volunteer for more than 30 years at Mt. Carmel West Hospital even being a model for several Patient Care pamphlets. He volunteered at St. Mary Magdalene Church wherever needed, particularly the Bereavement committee and offering collections. There was never a question asked of him by his children that he couldn't answer and enjoyed calling us to ask if we could look things up on our "Mickey Mouse" phones. He kept current with politics and social issues and enjoyed heated discussions. He enjoyed the family cabin at Hide Away Hills and playing cards with friends and family. He will be joining his wife of 60 years, Mary, in Heaven and will be missed by his children, Mike, Jeannine, Ron and Rebecca, their spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by his group of breakfast buddies, relatives and longtime friends Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8pm Wednesday at the MAEDER-QUINT-TIBERI Funeral Home, 1068 S. High St. Rosary 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am Thursday at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 473 S. Roys Ave. Burial Sunset Cemetery.
