Evelyn Koruna Obituary
Koruna, Evelyn
1932 - 2017
Evelyn Lucille Koruna (Van Diepenbos), born on August 16, 1932, died on the morning of October 13, 2017 at the Friendship Village Health Center. Her loving husband, Bill, was by her side. Evelyn, the daughter of Hessel and LaVeta (Swoveland) Van Diepenbos, was born on August 16, 1932, in Goshen, Indiana. She graduated from Goshen High School. She then graduated from Calvin College and received her M.S in Education from the University of Michigan. On June 26th, 1965, Evelyn married William ("Bill") Koruna; they have three children, Tim, Amy, and Julie. Evelyn and Bill met and courted while they were both in Evreux, France. While there Evelyn learned to cook (and enjoy) Coquilles St. Jacques, and Bill insists they met when she lured him to her apartment with German chocolate cake after a little theater production. Evelyn taught elementary school for 33 years, in Vancouver Canada, in Cleveland, Ohio, in Evreux France through D.o.D. schools, and ended her career teaching in the Westerville School district. She retired in 1993, and enjoyed her retirement reading, traveling with Bill, researching genealogy, mentoring through Crossroads Prison Ministry, and spending time laughing and visiting with her family and many dear friends. Evelyn and Bill are members of the Columbus Vineyard Church. Evelyn is survived by her beloved husband Bill, their children Tim (Beth), Amy (Kevin) Barhorst, and Julie (Leo), and grandchildren Abby, Rob, Dan, Ellie, and William. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hessel and LaVeta Van Diepenbos, her brothers, Mearl and Frederick, and her sister-in-law Olga (Slayton). Family will receive friends 5-8pm Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Schoedinger Northeast Chapel, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd., Gahanna, OH 43230. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, October 18 at 10am. She did love flowers, but she'd be honored to have donations made to Crossroads Prison Ministry, a charity she supported with her own time and energy.
