Francis E. Schwartz, age 91, of Canal Winchester, formerly of 8621 Lithopolis Rd., Greencastle for 60 years; died Sunday, October 1, 2017. He was born January 23, 1926 in Columbus to the late William and Dorothy Schwartz. Francis was a graduate of Mifflin High School and received a Bachelor of Arts from Capital University. He began his teaching career at Perryton; where he was involved with educating and coaching athletics. Francis then retired from Groveport Madison after many years of teaching Ohio History. He was a devout Lutheran and a member at David Evangelical Lutheran Church. Francis was a member of both the Ohio Historical Society and the Canal Winchester Historical Society. He is preceded in death by his loving and caring wife of 68 years, Sara Alice Schwartz; grandson, Chris Miller; son-in-law, Wendell Miller; sisters, Joan (Oren) Dewey, Barbara (Hubert) Sprik. Francis is survived by his daughters, Pastor Susan Schwartz, Pittsburgh, PA, Kathy (Harry) Miller DeHaan, Canal Winchester, OH, Mary Schwartz, Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Robin (Jimmy) Hampton, Rachel (Nick) Swisher, Betsy (Ryan) Hess; 7 great-grandchildren; devoted friends, Luther (Patty) Ruff, Tom Smathers. Family and friends may visit 4-7:00 pm on Thursday, October 5 at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, OH 43110. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Leslie Fox, will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 6 at David Evangelical Lutheran Church, 300 Groveport Rd., Canal Winchester, OH 43110 with an hour prior visitation.
