Gene A. Jones, age 100, of Columbus, OH, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Kobacker House in Columbus, OH. He was born on January 10, 1917 in Amesville, OH, to the late Oscar D. and Sarah (LaFollet) Jones. He graduated from Amesville High School, received his Bachelor's Degree from Ohio University, and his Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University. He served as an executive officer of the 175th Fighting Squadron of the Army Air Corp in the European Theater during WWII. He married Mary E. Whisner in 1947, and shared 70 wonderful years with her. He practiced law for 32 years in Columbus, OH, was a member of the Columbus Rotary Club and a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, OH. Gene was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time spent with many golfing friends over the years. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Whisner) Jones; four children, Ron (Nancy), John (Ellen), Alan (Joanne), JoAnn (Randy) Kauffman; six grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church; 205 N Mulberry St, Mt Vernon, OH, 43050, on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Warren Outhwaite officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will take place in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors provided by Knox County Joint Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in the name of Gene A Jones.
