George Charles Balish III, 77, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 22, 2017 at Whetstone Care Center in Columbus. He was born September 23, 1940 in Toledo to the late George C. and Fern (Baugh) Balish Jr. George attended Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio where he was born and raised. He honorably served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a faithful of member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Council 847 and a 50 year member of the American Legion. George retired from the Dana Corporation with 24 years of service. George and his wife, Jo Anne owned and operated B and B Painting in Toledo, Ohio for 25 years before moving to Mount Vernon. He was well known speaker in the area specific to his military service and the effects of the Vietnam War. George is survived by his daughter, Tracy Lynn Schrader and husband, Scott M.; grandchildren, Channing Wade Cormany and wife, Tabby Walker and their children, Aubreigh Joanne, Lennon Thomas, and Chandler Michael Wade-Cormany; Christopher Wade Cormany and wife, Alysssa (McClanahan) Cormany; and their son, Oakley Thomas; and Morgan Cherri-Anne Mary Cormany; and brother, Ronald Balish and wife, Denise and his son, Bryan and Christina Balish and their children, Tyler Joseph and Austyn Noelle Balish. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Jo Anne (McIlroy) Balish, son Christopher Johnathan Balish and great grandson Austin James Cormany. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon. The Rosary will be recited following the visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as the Celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to NORD, National Organization of Rare Disease in his great grandson, Austin James Cormany's name.
