Gerard-Paul Hess, age 66, of Columbus, died Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Altercare of Canal Winchester. He was born on January 5, 1952 in Bellevue, Ohio to the late Samuel and Jaqueline Hess. Gerard was a devout Catholic his entire life. Graduate Bellevue High School, OH, and Toledo School of Meat Cutting. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In later years enjoyed tending his tomato and pepper garden. He was proud of his French heritage, living in France with his mother and brother during kindergarten and again as an adult for a year. Gerard was retired from the State of Ohio. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch praying, socializing with neighbors, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Gerard received honors of the 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus, December 2016. He always looked forward to working at their yearly fish fry fund raiser. Gerard is survived by his wife, Carol Hess; brother, Lionel Hess (Diane); nephews, Michael L Hess, Christopher L Hess (Stephanie); and great nephew, Everett L Hess. Family and friends may visit from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 25 at MYERS-WOODYARD FUNERAL HOME, 587 Main St, Groveport OH 43125. A funeral mass, officiated by Fr. James Coleman, will be held 10:30 a.m., viewing one hour prior, on Friday, January 26 at Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 5225 Refugee Rd, Columbus OH 43232. In lieu of flowers, donations to Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Bible Study or Knights of Columbus Council #11188, 5225 Refugee Rd, Columbus OH 43232; or Columbus Humane, 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct, Hilliard OH 43026.
