Helen C. Freyhof Obituary
Freyhof Helen C. Freyhof, age 97, of Upper Arlington, died May 10, 2017 at her residence, Sunrise on the Scioto. She was preceded in death by her parents Theodore R. and Elva Laughlin Freyhof. She was blessed with great friends, and preceded in death by eight special friends of a South High School Club (formed in 1936). Helen retired from The Ohio State University in 1961 after 14 years of service with the payroll department. She was a graduate of South High School in 1937 and received her Bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University in 1941. She was a member of the North Community Lutheran Church and the OSU Women's Basketball Rebounders Club and was a charter member of the 1977 Buckeye Club. She was a Life Member of The OSU President's Club; The OSU President's Club Canfield Society at OSU, the Neil Legacy Society and was honored by the OSU Women's Varsity "O" Club in 2003 with the Barbie-Tootle Spirit Award. She was the first woman to endow a scholarship in the OSU's Women's Athletic Department at the OSU Women's Basketball program. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221, where a funeral will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, May 16, 2017 to celebrate her life. Pastor Chris Adams will be officiating. Honorary Pallbearers include Richard Bindley, Larry Ball, Michael Ball, Mark Green, Jerry Kaneff, Matthew Green, Howard Linder, Jerry Dailey, John Crouse, William Thoirus, and Owen Ball. Burial in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana, Ohio will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Helen C. Freyhof Athletic Scholarship Fund #522321, c/o University Development, 1480 W. Lane Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Special thanks to the staff at Sunrise on the Scioto and Capital City Hospice.
