Helen Louise Smith, 87, born March 2, 1930 in Chillicothe, OH, departed this life November 15, 2017. She graduated from Chillicothe High School before earning a BA in Education at Oakwood University. She furthered her education earning her Masters of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. As a college professor, she instructed at Glenville SDA School, Cheyney State University, Coppin State University, Xavier University, Duquesne University, and Columbus State Community College. Helen received Columbus State Community College Appreciation Award for valuable contribution in 1995 and the Allegheny West Conference award for All Levels of Humanity in 1999. She was a member of Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Predeceased by parents Monroe and Henrietta George, brothers Edward "Chink" George, Lloyd George, Robert "Bobby" George, and Charles "Smacky" George, sister Kathryn "Katz" Locklear, and nephew Paul Locklear. Survived by husband, John C. Smith; sons, Johnathan Smith and Jerrud Smith; grandson, Justin Smith; granddaughter, Lauren Smith; daughter-in-law, Julia Smith; nephews, Keith "Buzz" Locklear and Kray Locklear; nieces, Kim Locklear, Kristy Locklear, and Kerri Locklear; and a host of great nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Celebration of Life 7 pm Monday, November 27, 2017 at Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3650 Sunbury Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 pm until start of service. Interment 10 am Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE 720 E.
