Howard "Shorty" Hatten, 92, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 23, 2017. He was born September 6, 1924 to the late Clyde and Fannie (Dorsey) Hatten in Kenova, WV. He served his country in the Navy during WWII and was involved in the Alpha Athletic Club, Elks Club, Charity Newsies and the Maennerchor Club. Shorty was a tremendous athlete, avid golfer, traveler and is in the Ohio softball hall of fame. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Joan (Friebis) Hatten; daughters, Lisa (Jim) Treboni, Tina (David) Van Meter; step-sons, David (Julie) Crouch, Michael (Renee) Montgomery and Daniel Montgomery; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Cline; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Begley) Hatten and son Forrest Kevin Hatten. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Oak Leaf Village and Always Best Care Westerville for the love and care they extended to Shorty. A special thank you to nurses Bruce and Bobbie at Ohio Health Hospice. Visitation 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. with an Elks Service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road, Columbus, OH, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2017. Interment with military honors to follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estates. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice, 800 McConnell Dr., Columbus, OH 43214.
