Howard Lawrence Obituary
Lawrence, Howard
1934 - 2017
Howard E. "Gene" Lawrence, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 and is now in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. He was 83 years of age, having been born in Columbus, Ohio on March 25, 1934. Gene was a strong, quiet man in nature. He treasured his wife - instantly falling in love with her while in first grade at Dana Ave Elementary School and knowing at that time he was going to spend all the days of his life devoted and loving this beautiful person. They married in April 1957. He was a very caring man and gave freely from his heart to anyone in need of help. He loved sports, especially basketball, bowling and golf. He also was very proud of his beautifully manicured yard and flowers, where he enjoyed and spent much of his retirement time. Gene collected beautiful music and would spend hours each day taking pleasure in listening to it. Gene was also an animal lover, treasuring numerous dogs (and even a few raccoons) throughout his life. He retired from Abex Corp (Denison Division) on June 1, 1986, with 33 years of service. He held various positions while employed with Abex, a few of them being Assembly Foreman, Material Coordinator and Production Manager. Gene's military experience was with the U.S. Army, having served in Korea on the front line and as an Honor Guardsman protecting dignitaries that traveled the region. Gene was preceded in death by his loving parents John Otho and Anna Mae (Somer) Lawrence, and his special "big" brothers Norman and Donald. Gene was truly heartbroken over the passing of his lifelong love, Judith (Kaiser) Lawrence with whom he was married for 59 years. He is survived by his sister Judy South; brother, Robert Lawrence; many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by those who were blessed to know him and call him their friend. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, where the family will receive friends beginning 9 a.m. one hour prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Celebrant, Andrew Hoover, officiating. Interment will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Gene's endless love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of your choice or to the Capital Area Humane Society, 3015 Scioto Darby Executive Ct., Hilliard, Ohio 43026.
