Hugh R. Bolton Obituary
Bolton, Hugh R.
Hugh R. Bolton, 71, passed away on April 24, 2017 succumbing to pneumonia and severe anemia due to complications of a long battle against a type of leukemia. He was born in Cleveland, OH on September 6, 1945 shortly after the end of WWII to the late Charles and Elisabeth(Claflin) Bolton. He grew up in Cleveland Heights and after graduating high school served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1968 as a fire control specialist on the USS Joseph Strauss(DDG-16). He resided in Columbus, OH for the majority of his adult life and used his benefits under the G.I. Bill to attend The Ohio State University from 1978 to 1981, majoring in Industrial Engineering. He had diverse employment through his life, working as an X-ray equipment engineer, telecommunications technician, commercial printer, home mortgage originator and security agent for several industrial corporations. Hugh was an early user of personal computers and worked for many years as a freelance IT specialist. During his latter years he was a strong advocate for Linux as well as supporter of internet freedom. Interestingly, he rarely used email but preferred to communicate on his cell phone. He was a patriot as well as a great polemic and enjoyed reading, politics, photography, cats, road trips, shooting and surplus auctions. He claimed to have owned over 50 vehicles during his lifetime. He survived by a sister, Meredith (husband Gerald) Oliver; nephew, Gerald Oliver, Jr.; and niece, Meredith Suzanne aka Merisue (husband, Wendell Eric) Repik; along with great-nephews, William Levi and Waid Liam Repik, all residing in California. A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, July 15, 2017. For further details, please contact [email protected] Arrangements entrusted to CALIMAN FUNERAL SERVICES. WWW.CALIMANFUNERALSERVICES.COM
