Irene Mary Orlaska, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 under the loving care of Kindred Hospice at the Brookdale Chestnut Hill. She was born on August 30, 1921 in Dickinson, North Dakota to the late Peter and Lena Riley Stricker. She earned her degree as a Registered Nurse in September 9, 1943 at the Milwaukee County General School of Nursing. She went on to proudly serve as a 2nd Lieutenant with the United States Army from April 26, 1945 to June 5, 1946. There she made three round trips across the Atlantic, bringing back war brides and their children. Her Nursing career ended when Irene went on to retire from Riverside Methodist Hospital in 1984. Irene had a talent for music, playing the clarinet, piano and organ. She also enjoyed traveling, having been all around the world, and all 50 states. She joins her husband, Norman S. Orlaska, whom she met in the 7th grade and married on June 15, 1946. Irene and Norman were founding members of St. Matthias Catholic Church. She is survived by her son, Eric Anthony Orlaska; daughter, Mary (Michael) Kididis; grandchildren, Hope Cole, Derek (Kelly) Orlaska, Nicholas (Karli) Kididis, Stephen (Angela) Kididis and Stephanie (Daniel) Kelly; great grandchildren, Sabrina Terstegge and Rylee and Hanna Orlaska, William, Brandon and Wyatt Kididis; sisters, Fern Felski and Joanne (Jerome) Altenburg; sister-in-law, Barbara Orlaska. She is also preceded in death by daughter-in-law Christa Orlaska, brothers-in-law Don Orlaska and Ervin Felski. Her family will receive friends from 4-7pm Monday, January 14, 2019 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. HIGH STREET IN WORTHINGTON. Mass of Christian Burial 10am Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 1582 Ferris Road, Columbus, Ohio 43224. Interment with Military Honors, Resurrection Cemetery.
