Jack, a longtime resident of Newark, passed away September 25, 2017, at Sunrise of Worthington. He was born June 14, 1929, in Nelsonville, OH, to the late John Walter and Mary Carpenter Wilson. Jack graduated from University High School in Columbus and received his B.S. in Education from The Ohio State University in 1952. He was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War Era. Jack was an American History teacher and a football coach in small towns throughout Ohio. During his career, he taught and coached in Johnstown, Mt. Vernon, Sandusky, Upper Sandusky, Northridge, Heath, and Newark. He also was an assistant football coach at Dennison University for several years. He retired from Newark City Schools in 1985. Jack also served as a scout for football recruits under Earle Bruce at The Ohio State University. Jack loved nature and being outdoors, serving as a longtime volunteer at Highbanks Columbus Metro Park. He also volunteered for many years at Centenary Methodist Church, running the sound system during Sunday services. Jack was a student of American History and had a particular interest in Civil War history. Jack and his wife, Aubrey, enjoyed exploring the small towns where they lived by attending community festivals, reunions, and many high school and OSU football games. Jack was a great story teller, many of them were even true. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife Aubrey Fisher Wilson, and sister Mary Wilson Rudin. He is survived by his nieces and nephew, Caryl Jean (Gary Cowan) Rudin of Columbus, Charles Phillip (Carol White) Rudin of West Palm Beach, FL, Cheryl Rudin of Columbus and Cindy (Cory) Gratz of Mt. Vernon; as well as grand nephew, Paul (Mercedes) Rudin of FL; grand niece, Valerie (Brian) Roushey of GA; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. Jack also will be missed by many friends, neighbors, former students and football players. The family would like to thank his caregivers at Sunrise of Worthington and Heartland Hospice for their knowledge, support, and loving care for their Uncle Jack. A funeral service for Jack Wilson will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 2 at Centenary Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville, OH. Family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 1 at BRUCKER and KISHLER FUNERAL HOME, 985 N. 21st St., Newark, OH. A private burial will be held at Union Cemetery in Columbus, OH.
