James R. Stillwagon, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, at the age of 68. Jim was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio on February 11, 1949 to the late Woodrow A. and Anna Lucci Stillwagon. Jim is survived by his wife, Effie; three daughters, Nicole, Angela and Electra; two grandchildren, James and Brianna; along with his brothers, Woody (Sally) and Tommy (Linda). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Jim was athletic throughout his life. He played football, basketball and baseball in school in Mount Vernon and played football at Augusta Military Academy in Virginia. Jim played football at The Ohio State University for Coach Woody Hayes and was a member of the 1968 National Championship team. He has so many dear and caring teammates from his time at OSU who have become amazing and loving friends to Jim and Effie. He earned the opportunity to play for the Toronto Argonauts for several years after playing football at Ohio State. Jim was honored with induction into both the National College Football Hall of Fame (1991) and selected to the All-Time Argonaut team in 2009. Jim was not only a great memorable football player. He was a husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend, business man and philanthropist. Jim would help anyone who needed help. He donated and cared for several organizations in the community like Central Ohio Diabetes Association, Unverferth House, Athens County families, Special Olympics and Children's Hospital to name just a few. Jim also was the founder of the Len Immke Swing for Diabetes Golf Outing. Most times, the help was given without any recognition. Jim had his local business, Stillwagon Enterprises, for over 30 years. Jim, Effie and Kim (Howell) have been inseparable running the company and helping the local community. Jim had so many special people in his life. There are too many to list so please know how grateful Jim was and his family is for all of you. Jim McNamara and Randy Walker along with so many other wonderful people helped Jim continue to live his life to the fullest despite obstacles. Jim loved his family, loved telling stories and sharing what he has learned in his life. Jim was a passionate man who believed in being truthful, having integrity and doing what is right. His family will receive friends from 4-8pm Friday, February 9, 2018, at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High Street in Worthington (1/2 mile south of I-270). Mass of Christian Burial 10am Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6899 Smoky Row Road, Columbus, Ohio 43235. Father Mark Summers, Celebrant.
